It has long been known that cardiovascular complications are important in the prognostication of diabetes mellitus. Incidences of cardiovascular complications are closely associated with abnormalities in lipid metabolism. This study was designed to evaluate plasma triglycerides and cholesterol levels as well as other variables in patients with overt diabetes mellitus of maturity onset type. 23 diabetics were evaluated and compared to a matching control group Mean plasma triglycerides and cholesterol levels in patients with diabetics were respectively 193.3¡¾126.4 and 203.4¡¾49.2 mg/100 ml and mean plasma triglycerides and cholesterol lever were respectively 86.4¡¾37.4 and 170.8¡¾30.1 mg/100 ml. There was a significantly elevated concentrations of both triglycerides and cholesterol in the diabetic group (p<0.001).
